If you contacts are gone you may be able to restore them clicking on the Contacts Actions in the toolbar and selecting "Restore from backup.". I don't see why this is necessary since my Gmail is linked to it already, and that I didn't need this new email account to use 'To Do List' or 'Contacts' cloud syncing. While it doesn't affect the running of the webmail it's still good to check to see if everything you expect is there. In short I have been forced to create an icloud email account which has been linked to my Apple ID and I can't remove it. Make sure no addresses are defined who's email you don't want blocked. Look for suspicious filters and subtle filter names like '.' (a dot) or ':'.
